Event flyer

On 17 March 2021, the BEYOND Centre of EO Research and Satellite Remote Sensing of the National Observatory of Athens organised the first webinar of the Beyond Dialogues series. The webinar is entitled “Discovering the secrets of desert dust using ground based remote sensing” and held by Dr. Vassilis Amiridis.

The audience of this webinar was from different educational and scientific backgrounds, so in the beginning, the presentation was simplified in order for the audience to understand the principles and the problems emerged from desert dust. In the end, there was an extensive presentation of scientific achievements and services regarding desert dust. The webinar covered the following topics:

  • Introduction to deserts
  • How do deserts produce dust?
  • What are the consequences of the produced dust?
  • Why are we interested in studying it?
  • How do we monitor desert dust using ground based and satellite remote sensing?

The webinar has been carried out in the framework of the Action "Greek Training Activities at NOA" and has been implemented in collaboration with PRAXI Network/FORTH. It aims to bring together the Greek scientific community involved in space and to introduce possibilities offered by space and space applications in various fields of science and society.
