This action has provided the incorporation of Copernicus modules into a one-year qualifying training for professionals in the digital sector to train them as "Geomaticians" (adequate for a master’s degrees and more). The main objective of the training was to learn how to develop space applications (web and mobile) using Copernicus data sets.

The main idea was to attract the computer scientists to space applications. The training will also be proposed to Europe and internationally. As a guideline, the Copernicus data was used as INPUT for mini-projects and practice that allowed the students to learn and to master space applications (and services) development methods and techniques.

This program was based on 5 skill blocks corresponding to the five typical activities derived directly from the general process of production, operation and administration, on which the "Geomatics" type job is mapped. The activity of technological watch is transversal to these first four activities:

  • Block 1 - Structuring and integrating data
  • Block 2 - Process, analyze and disseminate data
  • Block 3 - Developing computer applications that take into account the specificities of geographic data
  • Block 4 - Manage Geomatics Projects
  • Block 5 - Ensuring and promoting technological, regulatory and business intelligence

16 trainees participated in the course, out of which 12 received the certificate.

Outputs and Results:

  • Delivery of a one year training program to become a GIS Copernicus Developer
  • Delivery of a list of companies interested by trainees and by using Copernicus Data Sets
  • Delivery of use cases based on Copernicus Data sets
  • Delivery of a list of certified trainees
