The objective of this action is to realise six videos showcasing operational uses of Copernicus data and services by public administrations and non-space SMEs. The videos will present the Copernicus services from a non-technical perspective, with a particular emphasis on benefits, with the aim of raising the interest of other potential users towards the Copernicus data and services.

The target audience is local and regional public administrations and SMEs working in sectors other than space, which could integrate Copernicus data and services into their current activities or start a new business based on Copernicus data.

The videos will especially target professionals with no or little knowledge of satellite data and of the Copernicus programme, and who are outside the usual audience of space agencies and space organisations. Hence, the videos will primarily focus on the needs of the organisations interviewed, on the integration of the Copernicus data and services into their operations and on the concrete uses and value-added of the Copernicus data and services.

The videos will present the experience of six European non-space organisations using the Copernicus data and services to enhance their work: Two city administrations, two regional or state administrations, and two SMEs or private sector clusters. The user testimonials will concern the use of Copernicus data and services in the domains of environmental protection, urban planning, cultural heritage, energy, agriculture and risk management / water management.

The videos will be produced in English with subtitles in French, Italian, Spanish, Dutch and German and each video will have a duration of approximately 5 minutes. They will be disseminated at space and non-space events gathering public and private organisations which might use Copernicus data and services.

Outputs and Results

  • The six videos and case studies will be disseminated by CNES and its partners through the organisations’ webpages and social media and at regional, national and international meetings gathering user communities
  • The videos will be showcased to potential users that are not familiar with the space sector and with technical jargon, with the aim of extending and accelerating the uptake of Copernicus by civil society
  • According to the available budget, this action could be expanded to include more videos as well as other partners
  • Goal of the action: to achieve at least 1000 visualizations within the first few months of the releases and to provoke the interest of at least 30 companies or public administrations
