Copernicus Promotion Activities in Bulgaria



The proposed action is targeted to all governmental, research and business institutions as potential users of Copernicus data and services in Bulgaria. It aims to increase public awareness and to promote Copernicus literacy to the Bulgarian stakeholders & general public (society). The primary focus is to raise awareness and knowledge of the research/academic community and governmental institutions on Copernicus/EO and its data, products, and services since these communities are not yet aware of the full range of benefits that Copernicus can provide for their sector. The action focuses on a broad community of users as well as to SME, industry which potentially could benefit from the developed Copernicus data and services;

The more specific objectives of the action are:

  • Identify places in the existing national research and innovation priorities in which Copernicus products and services could be used and further improve policy making processes
  • Develop demonstration use-cases for national governmental/non-governmental or business entities
  • Support the operational work of the national EO/Copernicus Coordinating Committee
  • Improve national experts networking and cooperation by establishing Bulgarian online directory of EO/Copernicus experts, technology providers and end-users from academia and governmental institutions; establish Bulgarian portal of the Copernicus Academy and Relays which is to serve as a meeting/ discussion/knowledge point on Copernicus
  • Improve Networking with other Copernicus Relays/Academies on a pan-European scale

Outputs and Results

  • 2 meeting minutes with national entities, 2 meeting minutes from work meetings between SRTI-BAS and CASTRA and 1 meeting minutes from Constituent Assembly of the national Copernicus Coordination Committee
  • 2 use-cases of semi-operational services for Bulgarian governmental/non-governmental and business entities; additional use cases based on preliminary selection of interested governmental/non-governmental and business entities
  • Short report with photos from 2 school visits with lectures on Copernicus programme
  • 4 quarterly Newsletter of Copernicus Relays
  • A draft of a national Copernicus program Road map (in Bulgarian) and actions to be included in national legislative documents (law, orders, strategies etc.)
  • A national web portal of Copernicus Relays and Academy
  • A number of presentations at scientific conferences, governmental forums, etc.
  • Terms of service for the National Copernicus Coordination Committee
  • Workshop and Workshop proceeding
  • Report on the custom functionality to the national MIS-BS portal (Monitoring and information system for the Black Sea) using Copernicus maritime and land data services
  • Report on the conducted information and training workshop oriented to Copernicus maritime services available for the Black Sea region, and the use of the MIS-BS portal by Bulgarian users
