On 7 April 2021, the BEYOND Centre of EO Research and Satellite Remote Sensing of the National Observatory of Athens organised the second webinar of the Beyond Dialogues series. The webinar is entitled “Space Security” and held by Dr. Kleomenis Tsiganis.

The first part of the webinar focused on space debris while answering the following questions:

  • What is space debris?
  • How is it formed?
  • What is the future of space debris?
  • How can mankind be ready to assess and intervene in order to avoid collisions in space?

The second part of the webinar was about near-earth asteroids and how we can do the right risk assessment and mitigation policies.

At the end of the presentation, there was an extensive discussion on space security and the science outreach in Greece as the audience consisted of high school students, educators, public and scientists.

The webinar has been carried out in the framework of the Action "Greek Training Activities at NOA" and has been implemented in collaboration with PRAXI Network/FORTH. It aims to bring together the Greek scientific community involved in space and to introduce possibilities offered by space and space applications in various fields of science and society.
